Ancient Minoan Cooking Experience

Reawaken ancient recipes that are thousands of years old!

Created in 2012 by a small group of archaeologists, potters, and cooks living in the Lassithi prefecture of Crete, Minoan Tastes offers experiential workshops, cooking classes and dinner parties that explore the ancient foods and cooking techniques of Europe’s first bronze age civilization from 3650 to 1450 B.C. Taught by Jerolyn Morrison, a scholar in Minoan cooking vessels, the classes are a mix of archaeology, anthropology, and hands-on cooking, with the dishes all made in authentic Minoan-style ceramic pots set over a hearth fire. Just like the Minoans, we use ingredients that we can find locally and in season.  We focus on seasonal foods like wild mushrooms or fresh greens depending on the time of year and the crops available. You can be as involved as you like, from baking a handmade pita on a hot stone to simply relaxing through an afternoon sipping on local wines as you learn more about the history and archaeology of the area.
